A great American tradition that has inspired a cult following is the infamous Shamrock Shake. Here’s the thing. We absolutely don’t normally eat out at fast food places, however once a year it’s really hard not to resist sneaking out to a McDonald’s to pick up our annual indulgence of minty goodness. You know you’ve done it. There’s even a website dedicated to locating these seasonal treats– shamrockshake.com. For those who live in areas where this green monster is not offered, of if you have enough discipline to stay away from the fast food giants, try making a homemade version from this recipe we found in food.com.
Ingredients:
2 cups vanilla ice cream
1 ¼ cups 2% low-fat milk
¼ teaspoon mint extract
8 drops green food coloring
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed until smooth
Stop blender to stir with spoon if necessary to help blend ice cream
Pour into 12-oz cups and serve with a straw
We like to transfer our shake immediately to our Hydro Flask to keep it from melting so we can savor it for longer. Plus the double-walled design prevents “sweating” and keeps our hands from getting cold.
