Today in Los Angeles, state Sen. Fran Pavley will be asking mothers to give her their baby bottles and get a new bottle in return one that Pavley believes will be safer for their babies.
The bottles she will be passing out are made without the chemical bisphenol-A, an ingredient commonly found in shatter-resistant plastics used to make baby bottles and food containers.
Although the federal Food and Drug Administration says the chemical, commonly known as BPA, is safe for use in food containers, Pavley and a growing number of scientists and environmental organizations disagree.
