After 27 year old University of Utah grad student Tim DeChristopher learned that 164,000 acres of pristine land was to be auctioned off to big oil and gas companies he decided to do something about it.
He simply slipped passed protesters and stepped quietly into the auction and picked up paddle number 70. And in an act that would later draw worldwide attention, Tim drove up the bidding price of 12 parcels equal to roughly 22,000 acres. Mr. DeChristopher has then removed by a Federal Agent that asked what Tim was doing. “I said I was disrupting what I felt was a fraudulent auction in an act of civil disobedience” said Tim.
It turns out that Tim may have been in fact correct in that a judge has since ordered BLM to stop handing over leases of the 77 parcels that were scraped until the courts can decide if the auction was even legal in the first place.
To this we at Hydro Flask say: congratulations Tim, and keep up the good work.
